positive snowballs

Today started out crappy. I mean that literally. I was walking the dogs this morning and they got tangled up around trying to go after a car passing by us because god forbid a single element in their environment move without them pursuing it. As the tangled around me, their leashes got caught around the baggie of poop in my hand and it broke open. On me.

Fortunately, we were only half a block away from the house but that was a smelly block, I can tell you. Decorum completely went out the window and I stripped on our (non covered) front porch and neighbors be dammed. They'd do the same thing if they were covered in dog poop.

So I started the morning in a bad mood to say the least. And you know how one thing goes bad and then it all snowballs?

I realized the crankiness level was fast getting out of control and that one still and serene part of my brain kicked in and said I wonder if one positive thing would start a snowball of other positive things?

I do love a challenge. So I am here to share with you the beautiful and positive things I'm seeing in my world today, not only to soak up some beauty for myself but also because I would like to offer you some positive snowballs as well. I hope you enjoy!

Like this fabulous necklaces I bought from Stacy at bella wish. She has something similar here and I just had her add the stone.

a joy necklace

And then there's Leonie's new e-course, making space for your goddess to shine, hereby known as the oh my god this e-course is perfect for me! Seriously, I looooovvvveee organization, I can't create without it. Being able to do it in a way that is more spiritual and creatively fulfilling sounds right up my alley.

My amazing friend, Regina, who is a mentor to me in so many ways honors me with the opportunity to photograph her beautiful jewely for her etsy shop, the silver magpie

star necklace

I think this one is my favorite one so far. Photographing her stuff is so much fun as I get to play in a different way than when I photograph people.

I followed Jen Lee's article over at the wish studio to her personal blog and found this gem on when 70% is good enough. I loved it. It's exactly what I needed to be reminded of.

This post from Melissa is one of those HOLY FREAKING GOD moments. Watch the video. It is transformative and beautiful.

The absolutely amazing song accompanying the video is from an artist called bhagavan das.

What beauty are you seeing these days? I'd love to know.

Brandi,
You point out so well that happiness is a choice. It's a matter of perspective and personal practice—no matter what happens! I love your poopy story. It demonstrates how, even when things get really "crappy," we can still choose how to respond. I am choosing happiness today, too, and a life of beauty, despite a cranky teenager under foot. I'm gazing at this gorgeious blue/green Bay and eating a cinnamon bun, and blogging with kindred spirits. Joy! Kudos to us both for making good decisions for ourselves...

I'm noticing the beauty in my yard lately. The dandelions and buttercups, the bugs, the trees. No wonder people like to paint landscapes.

... and I bet your mood has improved tenfold during this process. Thanks for sharing the beauty ... may the snowball grow out of control HUGE!

... I'm noticing that a silly little dance can change the entire mood of a place (in a really good way), the sky is that blue that poets like to write about & the person at the gorcery store that prepared the potato salad for today sliced the potatoes just right!

Well Brandi...you turned a crappy start into something pretty great! And I have to say - the yoga video from Melissa (the music and the man) are simply amazing!

I found joy yesterday - as I was out on a bike ride - having a deer run on the bike path right just a few feet in front of me - for about 100 yards (it was like we were racing, and he won!). And custard from the local custard stand. And just walking around our yard, with my wife. All wonderful! Thanks for reminding me to look at all the "good" that came in the day...

The 70% thing reminded me...

Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche has a great talk about 10% that you might enjoy. You can go to the Shambhala website or just google the talk -- it should come up on YouTube. :)

2 things stand out for me lately:

1. Walking out of class last week, my senses were completely filled - each of them! with the beauty outdoors: smelled freshly cut grass, heard birds going nuts, felt strong warm breezes across my skin, saw everything aglow with the sunlight, tasted it all! It was actually SO intense that I had this weird feeling that it was too good and that maybe it was the end of line for me (i know, crazy, huh??) but, hurray, it wasn't! LOL

2. It's been so rainy lately that the blue sky looks a hundred times more beautiful when it appears. Yin and yang at work.

Well, you sure got your mind back on the right track after a poopy begining to your day, boy-howdy! Bravo.

We all know, well most of us know, we can change our attitude, but to actually concentrate and do it is divine, like those necklaces.

And as soon as this head-ache lifts I'm gonna get some positive snowballs rolling too.

Wow! Great stuff here. I LOVE the idea of "positive snowballs" -- absolutely fab!

Lately I've been seeing a lot of good everywhere I go. And why is that? Because I'm looking for it! I used to always be looking at the negative things, but changing my focus has changed what I see in the world.

In particular, I've started noticing a lot of positive images of women in the media now that I've started my new site, Hope Springs Internal (www.hopespringsinternal.com) and that has been a FANTASTIC experience. :)
