mission monday:: 90 seconds

let the sunshine in...

I often listen to past talks from my minister while I at work. I tell my coworkers that it keeps me from throwing staplers at their head. (that's a total joke. I would never throw a stapler at someone. A pen, maybe. but that's it).

Anyway, I ran across an old talk from several years ago that reminded of an awesome exercise that left me feeling glowy for days. (I'm thinking about changing the title on these posts from 'mission monday' to 'stuff I learned in church'...lol)

The exercise works best with two people but if you don't have a partner, don't worry about it. Here's what you do: keep an eye on the clock or set a timer or stopwatch and for 90 seconds talk about every good, awesome, positive or happy thing in your life. If you have a partner, face them and share and their job is to listen and soak all the goodness. If you don't have a partner, try doing this in front of the mirror or just speaking. Whatever feels comfortable for you.

You are not allowed to play small here. This isn't about downplaying your life. This is full on celebration of whatever is awesome to you. If you are feeling a little unsure or timid, explore the rebel part of your joy rebel and see if she'd like to make an appearance and nudge you towards celebration. OWN all in your life that is beautiful and amazing and cool. Once the 90 seconds is done, if you have a partner it's your turn to soak up the love as they share all the awesome in their life.

My experience was that was an incredibly shiny 90 seconds. Light. Happy. Free.

You may be saying, but Brandi, we just did something like this last week. Gratitude lists? Remember? I think of this exercise as gratitude lists X 10. Words have power and speaking your good as opposed to writing your good is like a life awesomeness magnifying glass.

So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to give yourself that 90 seconds of light and celebration. I think you'll be giving yourself a gift that lasts much longer than 90 seconds.

Until next time, rock on joy rebels!

p.s. I am actually on vacation with my mom and sis for the week and this post has been published thanks to my hubs. I'll be back next week to share the love!

This is a wonderful idea. Listing gratitude and sharing gratitude are 2 different ideas.

I'm doing this tonight with my husband. And I'm going to increase the time as we continue down the road with gratitude. Thanks for sharing!
