through the trees, nikon d50 digital
I love synchronicity.
I submit my monthly columns to Mindy way before they ever get published at wish studio. Yet this month's column seems (to me anyway) to be a perfect bridge between my last post and this one.
And THEN I was browsing through my photos and came across the one above I'd taken in the spring and forgotten about. You know the phrase 'can't see the forrest through the trees'?
This mission is about getting back to basics. Goals are awesome. I am so grateful I have created a system for creating my dreams. But sometimes when my life starts looking like I envisioned it, I don't know quite what do with it. To be honest, perviously when life has gotten overwhelming, I've pushed through it until I was so burned out that things fell apart or just...well...quit.
I'm not saying that to knock on myself. I think that's a natural reaction, especially given the messages and surrounding I had growing up. But...I didn't want to do that this time. I don't want to keep up the jerky start/stop motions that permeated previous times in my life. So I stepped back and decided to say hi to the overwhelm and see what it had to say in return. What came up for me was to appreciate what was right in front of me. To take a moment to really see and experience the forrest in the trees. To take deep breaths. To feel the soft carpet of needles and leaves beneath me.
To feel the joy in connections, in volunteering, in a good book, and of course in my favorite TV show (how I met your mother-hilarious!).
So, what I will be doing for this week's mission is practicing the art of appreciating all that is around me just as it. I'll be taking my camera with me and putting some of the photos in the mission monday flickr group.
You are invited to appreciate your world this week, just as it is.
happy missioning joy rebels!

"Sychronicity" is one of my favourite words!
This week's mission has come at exactly the right time for me. What you've said has reminded me that worrying about the future is futile. So I'll now concentrate on the present and all that's available to appreciate in the moment.
Thank you :-)
I am having lots of opportunity to do this right now... my body is making me sit very still...i find my daily gratitude list brings me to this place constantly... i get filled up with things like the gift of sight, and my fingers that work... and then it is all ENOUGH! Thanks Brandi xxx
Hi Brandi!
I am with you on this one! I drive myself very hard and pursue my goals relentlessly. Sometimes, though, I find that I am living in "anticipation" and forgetting that the most important time in my life is "right now" ! So thank you for this wonderful reminder.
ps I love this blog!
Looking forward to this week's mission....glad I found your blog to participate.
Fantastic mission! I love it and I can't wait to get started! :)
I definitely love this mission. It is gratitude which always brings me back to center. :)
This is a great mission, Brandi! I share your tendency. Often times, I work at my life tooo hard and then crash and burn. Nothing really falls apart but I create this catch-up reflex that isn't very serene...I like your suggestion to take a week to appreciate all that "is" in our lives. I love that you'll have your camera in hand as you do this.
Talk about synchronicity! I really needed to see this post. It's actually the second post I've read this morning on living mindfully and staying calm. OK, so I'm paying attention now. Stopping, breathing, appreciating what's in front of me and "being" will be my focus.
oooh, I like this one :) You've inspired me, and luckily I've just finished my insane work deadline, so I get to participate this week! Yay!
mollie-I like synchronicity too. :-) Isn't it funny how certain words resonate with us?
faerian-my life gets so much easier when I get into the gratitude vibe. rock on you!
keith-thanks!!

dani-thanks girlie!
tabitha-amen :-)
joydiscovered-It's always nice to know you are not alone in something...you know? Makes it easier..
sami-deeeeppp breaths :-)
meredith-yeah for deadline being over!
too crazy...after reading your entry last friday i was prompted to explore the overwhelming feelings i was having myself. (see sunday's post) i just got over to see the mission today and WHOA! i've been doing a daily "balance" entry, which includes a gratitude section. can you say synchronicity...
making the most of what is in front of me ... i have been immersed in shadow for 2 weeks now... and i struggle with those times ...
but i began to read C.G.Jung and he said...
"How can i be substantial if i fail to cast a shadow".
and i appreciate that!
Hi again, Brandi! I finally got my mission debriefing up for the week. Here 'tis:

Great mission! Thanks again for being you :)
I loved this week's mission! It's amazing what you see when you open your eyes and look around - even if what's in front of you is exactly what you've been looking at for years.
I've kept your Mission Monday post open all week until I finally had time to partake. Today was the day! I blogged about it here and am heading over to the flickr group now to share my photos.
