mission monday:: good news

It's a fine line. You see, I love the energy around the word 'rebel'. Edgy, energetic, unique. Someone who expresses their life their way.

However, on the other side of that line can be an energy of resistence. And you know what they say: what you resist persists.

I am constantly tweaking my focus to make sure it is centered in the more productive side of the line and not in resisting.

Yet.

I find myself resisting, at least in the way I speak and write, the current media and it's focus. The whole 'if it bleeds, it leads' philosophy of the mainstream news and the whole 'no stone unturned no matter how intrusive it is' philosophy of the gossip mags.

And yeah, I'm not a fan. But resisting perpetuates and keeps my focus on what I don't like. So, instead of resisting against what I don't like, I will be focusing what I want to encourage and appreciate.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to do the same. Find the good news. Find the body affirming articles, the spotlights on those that uplift, the focus on community or arts.

I'd love to see what you find! I thought this article was awesome.

And for some more good news sources, go here:
grateful news
happy news
good news network

And ooh! I just thought of a bonus mission. If you feel so called, write to your local news network or paper and let them know about your preference in news.

Happy missioning joy rebel!

Love this post today! I think one of the reasons I love to read the newspaper each day is because I can flip past things I don't want to poison my energy and focus on the good stuff! I find the evening news too damaging to my psyche.

On a similar vein, I recently asked my supervisor at work if he and the program manager can open up part of our team meetings for positive news.

Our team meetings are mostly for going over difficult cases in our mental health clinic and announcements of how the agency is cutting back on this or unhappy with our department for such and such.

Morale is down, caseloads are up. I think we need a little positivity amongst the crud. He loved the idea. Let's see if it is implemented.

Brandi, this is wonderful. Thank you! Because of the negativity in media, I do not have a TV, nor do I listen to talk radio, etc. Did you know that USA Today did a poll on this and discovered that over 95% of what is reported in all media forms is negative? And it does have an impact on us, of this I am sure. :-)So I select my input carefully. Glad you are too!

I have bookmarked two and already receive the one (from gratefulness.org) and am so happy to be able to pass these resources on to others. May we all be peace-promoting. Blessings!

Hey Brandi, now that's a great mission. A big reason I started my blog was to provide a source of inspiration and good news. I've also stopped watching the nightly news. It's almost a form of protection. I just don't want to be bombarded with all the death and destruction, especially when there is so much greatness around to focus on instead.

I'm so thrilled to have stumbled upon your blog! And I love your mission this week. I host a radio show in Minneapolis that focuses on letting the REAL you shine through. So, I know it's possible to create positive media and get it on the air! :) We all can and must do more to create the shift!
