For the last two years, I've taken Christine Kane's suggestion to choose a word for the year, instead of the obligatory to do list of resolutions.
The first year, my word was clarity. Two weeks after choosing the word, I had an emotional meltdown as the stress and overwhelm of several changes occuring close to each other took their toll. That tearful episode in my bedroom prompted me to find my amazing, gorgeous and empowering life coach.
That year became a huge unfolding of ideas and dreams and internal truths and a letting go of old habits and thought patterns.
The second year (this year), my word was passion. My passion became joy. And then joy became a rebellion.
In both cases, I really spent some time contemplating what I wanted my word-my focus-to be.
This time, it was easy.
In these last few weeks of 2009, I find myself with the desire for only one focus.
beauty.
Beauty in the light, beauty in the dark and shadowy.
In the here and now.
In work and play and my hands and feet and friends and those I don't like that much.
I hope you will stay tuned as beauty unfolds.
What is your word for 2010?

Brandi - I do this too, and it has changed my life. My theme for 2008was Light (both lighten up and be the Light). My theme for 2009 was Put Yourself Out There. Theme for 2010? Yet TBD. Some contenders are Be Bold, Be Fearless, Go Within.
Brandi,
I know this word, beauty, will have great meaning for you in 2010. And it was great to be with you in 2009 and see your year unfold.
Wishing you much beauty...in all you see, all you do, all you are, all around you...
Beauty! Your choice is perfect for where your journey has been going in the last few months, brandi, and I can't wait to see what you do with it.
I just discovered Ms. Kane's concept recently, and blogged about it, too, because I think it sounds brilliant. I'm having a little trouble choosing my word. I'm down to three, and nothing seems to be leaping out at me yet...
I really like this idea of coming up with a word instead of resolutions. It just seems to allow for so much exciting serendipity and doesn't have the rigidity or guilt associated with it like resolutions. (Not that resolutions don't serve a good purpose.)
In advertantly, my word for this year ended up being "smplicity."
I don't have one yet, but I'm looking forward to exploring what my word for 2010 will be...
Great word, Brandi! and what a fabulous way to chronicle your life and growth over the years. Blessing to you as you enrich your life with beauty! Jodi
There is definitely beauty in the shadows, sounds like your time spending focusing on clarity and passion revealed that to you. That types of beauty is hidden to so many. Enjoy the view in 2010!
Sigh...I love this choice...beauty. Cannot wait to watch what you manifest in 2010. I don't have my word yet...hmmm....
OXO
I haven't come up with my word yet but I LOVE yours!
yay! Thanks!
What a great idea. I agree with what Jason said, it's far more flexible than resolutions and opens the door for all different experiences, many of which you probably wouldn't even have considered or thought of.
