unfortunately, we've had a very sad update on murphy
*sigh* I told myself that after Keely, I wasn't going through this again. While rehabilitating an animal is extremely rewarding, it is also tiring, frustrating and overwhelming. Not to mention expensive. I just didn't think I had it in me to do it again, especially now that we have two crazy ass dogs to deal with on top of rehabilitating an animal.
But. My husband is on the rescue email lists (I can't be or we would have approx 1,435 dogs) and he sent me an email with the above photo in it. This poor guy had been hit by a car and has a broken leg. The real tear-jerker part of this is that he had a companion who had also been hit and who'd died and he was found sitting with his friend. I know, stab me in the heart why don't you.
Now, Jason and I donate to the rescue where we got our nuts and I regularly see photos of rescue dogs but so far have not felt compelled to get involved with an individual animal until I saw this photo. And something outside of me just tugged my sleeve and said, okay it's time again. The same something that had tugged my sleeve when I saw a photo of keely.
Both times-now and with keely-the decision was not mine to make. It seems as though we are meant to be involved in this animal's life somehow and saying yes to that feels easier this time. I am certainly hoping the rehabilitation process, now that we've gone through it once and have a better understanding of what to do, will be easier this time. If not, someone please remind me we're doing a good thing in a few weeks when I'm banging my head against a wall.
Murphy is currently at a vet's office to get his leg fixed and then we'll be fostering him as he heals. He also have heart worm so we'll be dealing with that process as soon as he's up for the treatment.
I realized with Keely that I regretted not sharing more of the journey with you guys so I will be posting more photos as he progresses.
Have a wonderful weekend, ya'll...

Sweet Murphy. What an amazing thing you're doing. If you'd like me to send him some reiki I'm very very happy to do so!
Bless you, brandi. This is wonderful work y'all feel called to do.
Murphy's story does go straight to the heart. How tragic! His face is noble. You are definitely doing the right thing -- and I'll keep reminding you as necessary. ;)
Oh yes, do share lots of photos and stories to keep us posted as it goes. Just today I was crying while watching video news footage from Arlington where 20,000 plus animals were seized from an exotics distributor.
Ok now the guy sitting next to me in Starbucks thinks I am diseased cause I am rubbing my eyes and sniffing a lot to keep from crying. I like you would have a home full of dogs if I saw those in need of rescue all the time. Its a wonderful thing you are doing, just think how much better his life is about to get! And he deserves it. Good luck!!
welcome murphy - you chose good
I started tearing up just reading this! Poor Murphy. What a loyal pup to stay by his mate. Bless you for opening your heart to this wonderful soul. Prayers for a fast full recovery for Murphy.
you are a good, good soul.
What a sweet baby. Poor thing - He's been through so much, you can tell. But, he's certainly found a lucky streak with you guys. I can't wait to hear more about his progress and I can't wait to see more pictures. You are wonderful for taking care of him!
Oh, Murphy obviously needs lots of love! I'm so glad you have love to share with him!! :)
You are his own private angel...
Thank you from all of us ..
Thank you
Awhile back, I read a similar story that happened in a foreign country.
The dog disappeared after people showed up to take care of the dog that was very hurt and then died.
God bless you for all you do for these helpless animals.....
