Yet.
A decade ended with a full moon. A decade that involved a whole lot of growing up, a whole lot of loss that was about letting go of the yuck and loss that just plain sucked. A decade that started out with me being a flat broke new college graduate that couldn't make ends meet and ends with me in a cozy home with a cute guy I met in a bar and our two crazy ass dogs. And I wanted to celebrate that-all of it, the good and bad- in some way with my husband and partner in crime.
As we ate dinner in a restaurant with approximately 4,248 other people that apparently decided to start their new years celebrations with a nice meal, I mentioned that I had this idea about attaching wishes to balloons and letting them go.

my wishes, ready to be released
God bless my cool husband, he was all for it. So after the meal we ran to the local grocery store to grab some balloons.

Jason attaching his wish to a balloon
Jason didn't want me to share his wish with you guys...it was personal and all. :-)

After attaching the wishes to our balloons, we went to our upstairs deck and let them go. The weather was cold and cloudy and windy (and not all that celebratory...boo) but we knew that the big beautiful moon was shining somewhere. A quick kiss and then we let them go, where they immediately got whipped away by the wind.
The little ritual was simple and quick. There was no confetti or drunken sloppy kisses. I was in bed by 10.
But it felt wonderful to make a celebration that was uniquely ours and that we could continue together in the upcoming years.
How did you celebrate?

I'm so glad you released the balloons and started a new tradition for yourselves. Very special. And very meaningful.
We did nothing at all..cozied in front of the tv, watched the clock tick down at midnight and then headed to bed. I daresay we're becoming old farts!! lol!! :)
This is a lovely idea, I may have to do it next year.
the balloons - how special!
our NYE was simple and sweet - just us cozying with each other and the cat.
wishing you the best 2010.
I was at my best friend's wedding with my little fairy giving the beautiful bride away...
I just wanted to say, that I think your new tradition is awesome, and beautiful and something I think I may like to embrace also... Thank you (so much) for sharing!

L-thanks for stopping by my blog! I headed over to yours and I like it :-) Very cool. The 365 project is an awesome one to undertake.
Cool little ritual you started there. We wrote all the "I can'ts" and "I'm not good ats.." and burned the list under the moonlight. Fresh start.
That's so sweet, brandi. I just love that Jason was all for it, and jumped in to your vision with gusto. Sounds like exactly the man for you :)
As for old-far-dom, well, we're in it, too, I think, and loving it.
On new year's eve, we watched a brilliant film. I'd accidentally introduced my film-buff hubby to a new director this year, an American he'd never heard of, and this film was one of said director's almost-forgotten jewels. We were so into it that only 6 minutes after midnight did we realize it was officially the new year and go outside to toast with Argentinian white wine (champagne makes my head spin) under the blue moon.
We're so out in the middle of nowhere that there were no fireworks or noises to indicate that 2010 was here!
Hope y'all's new year is wonderful!
We also were in bed early...after good pizza and red wine.
What a difference a decade makes, eh?
Awesome Brandi!!
All the best to you and your rockin' hubby in 2010 and throughout this next decade!
I really loved this post, what an inspiration you guys are, to us and to eachother......and to your crazy-ass dogs!
